32in x 42in x 18in free standing art installation constructed using a vintage 1950’s IRWIN school desk and a traditional lead pencil. All these items were aesthetically refurbished then later textured with a white chalk paint and a clear matte chalk finish.

Inspiration:

Children are the guardians of human potential. As adults, we have suppressed our full potential to adapt to the particular environment where we live. Our current society has been driven by the quest to standardized everything. Even human beings, but we are not machines. We are emotional beings. We’re all different and these differences create our potential for synergy. Educating kids on human skills such as compassion, diversity, creativity, generosity and kindness to name a few, could replace traditional forms of disciplinary actions. Yet, to this day, our educational system continues to be plagued by this vintage traditions.
